This book is of interest to the general reader who wants a refresher course appealing to the head as well as the heart, and also to those preparing for church membership or confirmation. In Part I, The Essentials of the Christian Faith, the author expertly demonstrates exactly what the Christian faith is, rather than seeking to prove that it is true. The arguments are very well reasoned and well arranged. In Part II, Problems for the Christian Faith, he deals with the agnostics arguments seriously and sympathetically. There is also an excellent chapter on other religions, including Marxism, where he points to the positive things they have to say to us, always stressing where they are right as well as where they may appear to be misguided.Michael J. Langford studied philosophy at Oxford and London Universities. He has been chaplain at Queens College, Cambridge University where he now lectures part-time at the Faculty of Divinity. He is still active in the ordained ministry and is also a member of the Society of Friends (Quakers). He is an Emeritus professor at the Memorial University of Newfoundland where he taught philosophy and medical ethics.
